The 5 potential benefits of drinking wine in moderation

It is said that the consumption of red wine, as well as white wine, brings proven health benefits, mainly to prevent coronary heart disease, cancer, among others. But what stands out for this to be beneficial is to drink responsibly and in moderation. By the way, when we refer to moderation, we are emphasizing that, for example, a woman can drink up to one glass of wine a day and in the case of a man up to two.

What makes red wine stand out for its great health benefits is its richness in antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and lipid-regulating effects.

The origin of the beneficial properties of red wines are polyphenols, molecules responsible for their color. They confer astringency, body and structure to the wine and occasionally produce bitter flavors.

One of the most researched polyphenols is resveratrol, a natural antioxidant found in grape skins. As we well know, antioxidants reduce oxidative stress in the body and that in turn helps prevent diseases as we mentioned above.

On the other hand, it is said that red wine has more beneficial components than white wine, but it also brings its own. White wine is lesser known in this sense, but more for lack of information than for the benefits it presents. White wine has different nutritional properties than red wine, but also very interesting for its consumers. Among its most important properties are its antioxidants. The white vine is also rich in minerals and low in calories, helps to reduce stress, the sum of all this prevents cardiovascular diseases and counteracts the sedentary lifestyle.

Having explained that both red and white wines provide many health benefits, we would like to tell you which of them we consider to be the 5 most important:

1. Prevents heart disease: Its high concentration of polyphenols and vitamin E do help to keep the blood and blood vessels clean: something very beneficial for heart health in the long term.

2. Lowers cholesterol: This drink is very rich in polyphenols such as resveratrol: a component with a high concentration of antioxidants that prevents the formation of clots and low density lipoproteins (LDL or “bad cholesterol”).

3. Prevents osteoarthritis: Studies by scientists reveal that consuming an average of 5 to 10 glasses of red wine a week can reduce by more than 50% the risk of contracting rheumatoid arthritis, compared to non-consumers.

4. Regulates blood sugar: Resveratrol, a natural compound found in grape skins, controls blood sugar levels in diabetics. Resveratrol also controls cholesterol levels and systolic blood pressure.

5. Reduces the risk of cancer: Among the positive effects of its antioxidants are the reduction and delay of different types of cancer such as colon, breast or lung cancer.
